• Close friend: người bạn tốt (a very good friend)

Ex: He was always known to his family and close friends by his last given name, David.

• Enjoy each other's company: thích ở cùng với nhau (to like spending time with each other)

Ex: Steve and Noah are always together, they definitely enjoy each others company.

• Fair-weather friend: bạn xã giao, “thời vụ” (someone who is your friend only when you are cheerful and successful)

Ex: a lot of john's friends turned out to be fair-weather friends. They were with him when he was rich and left him when he went bankrupt.

• Friends are like second family: người bạn tri kỷ (that is to say your friends love you and make you feel comfortable.)

Ex:Mary and i knew each other when we were eight, she is like my second family.

• Get in touch with somebody: giữ liên lạc với ai (to contact somebody)

Ex: i plan to get in touch with my friends when i return home.

• Near and dear to someone: điều vô cùng quan trọng với ai đó (very important to someone)

Ex: her parents are the only people who are near and dear to her.

• Shoulder to cry on: gười sẵn sàng lắng nghe và thấu hiểu bạn của bạn (someone who is always ready to listen to your problems)

Ex: i'm so glad my boyfriend is so kind and sympathetic, it's good to always have a shoulder to cry on.

• To be through thick and thin: cùng trải đắng cay ngọt bùi, vui buồn có nhau (to have some good times and difficult times together)

Ex: your parents are married for 15 years, they must have been through thick and thin together.

• To be well-matched: hợp nhau về sở thích (to be similar to somebody in interests)

Ex: they are well-matched.

• To break up: cắt đứt mối quan hệ, chia tay (to end a relationship)

Ex: it is hard to believe that jacob and sarah broke up. They were dating since high school.
